ADULT: Wingspan 32-45mm. A smart moth that can only be confused with the scarcer Lempke's Gold Spot. The orange-brown forewings appear almost of light bronze and are marked by a series of darker longitudinal lines. The two central silvery white blotches are a key ID feature with the smaller of the two being either tear-shaped or elliptical. Towards the wing tip is a similarly coloured streak which tapers away to a point away from the outer edge. CHRYSALIS: Found inside the stems of rushes. LARVA: Feeds on Sedges, Plantains and Yellow Iris. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Damps areas such as fens and riverbanks as well as gardens, heaths and woodland rides. FLIGHT PERIOD: Two generations in the south and one in the north usually covering the June to September period. STATUS: Common throughout. |
